Many films adapting classic cartoon superheroes end up being disappointing, featuring weak narratives. This one, however, manages to avoid that pitfall; it proved to be a genuinely pleasant experience, and I preferred it considerably to the initial Thor film, which I found largely frivolous. The plot is acceptable and generally coherent, keeping in mind this is based on a comic book character—the narrative operates at that level. The visual effects and scenery are quite impressive too. Asgard looks fantastic, almost stunningly beautiful. Anthony Hopkins delivers an excellent performance as Odin, or Oden, as he’s known in Sweden, my place of origin. Tom Hiddleston is also very good in his part, even though I don't particularly care for the character—understandably, since he portrays one of the antagonists. Chris Hemsworth performs adequately, but he seems to be the least convincing actor among the cast. The film incorporates a number of jokes, and thankfully, most of them aren’t too terrible. While somewhat silly, I did find myself laughing at Thor's polite gesture of hanging Mjölnir on the clothes rack in Darcy and Dr. Selvig’s apartment. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
