Thor: Ragnarok stands out as the strongest superhero film released in 2017. It’s easily among the most enjoyable entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date and represents a significant step up from Thor: The Dark World. Cate Blanchett delivers an impressive performance as Hela, the Goddess of Death, proving to be a much more compelling antagonist than Malekith, who felt underwhelming in the previous film. Characters like Kat Dennings’ Darcy and Natalie Portman's Jane aren't missed; their absence allows for the introduction of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, a strong female character capable of fighting alongside Thor (Chris Hemsworth) without being relegated to a romantic subplot. Jeff Goldblum brings considerable humor as Grandmaster, overseeing gladiatorial contests on Sakaar. However, what truly elevates the film is the exploration of the complex and often conflicted relationship between Thor and his adopted brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). This dynamic was the only positive aspect of Thor: The Dark World, and it’s rewarding to see it given more depth here. It's also a pleasure to witness Thor developing a friendship with Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). My one criticism is regarding what happened to The Warriors Three; their storyline felt unsatisfactory. Aside from that minor issue, this is an excellent comic book adaptation.
