I walked away from This Means War feeling aggravated and disappointed, even though it has some worthwhile aspects. The film’s problems stem from the narrative; otherwise, it boasts three strong performers who deliver commendable work alongside well-executed action sequences. The movie sets up Hardy and Pine as lifelong companions, practically like kin, only to then have them quickly turned against one another due to a recent acquaintance. This treatment makes Witherspoon's character appear to be causing significant disruption in their lives, yet the film downplays its impact. Furthermore, when she selects one over the other, they reconcile without much fuss and immediately begin discussing marriage. As someone who values loyalty and romance, this aspect of the movie really bothered me. It’s not as terrible as my rating suggests, but I remain annoyed.
