The film *This Is the End* manages to bring something different to the familiar apocalyptic genre; the numerous celebrity appearances are entertaining and the concept of the characters portraying heightened versions of themselves works well. The disaster sequences are reasonably executed, although the opening scenes are undoubtedly the strongest part. I felt that the movie’s central section slowed down considerably; I didn't find it particularly funny. Like I mentioned earlier, the beginning is where most of the humor lies, as does a memorable final scene involving a boyband from Florida. Given that this expanded from a short film, some slower parts were probably inevitable—Seth Rogen movies often rely on fairly simple ideas anyway. Interestingly, Seth Rogen doesn’t have a particularly prominent role here. To be truthful, none of the actors really make a huge impact, if I'm being honest. It’s hard to identify anyone who truly shines onscreen, which is somewhat disappointing considering the star power involved. Ultimately, it isn't a bad movie, but it's also not something I can say I enjoyed, taking everything into account.
