This Is Not a Test proved to be an upsetting film that falls apart because of problems with its execution and rushed storytelling. It starts out feeling like a potentially good survival horror movie, but soon becomes a collection of scenes that don't quite fit together, featuring sudden disagreements between characters and a script that doesn’t manage to develop the ideas it wants to explore—hope, trauma, and how people recover from hardship. Even though Olivia Holt tries her best to make the story believable, the absence of any clear organization prevents viewers from relating to what the main character goes through as she moves from hopelessness toward staying alive. It feels like a chance to examine human nature in a dark setting that was wasted.
