A remarkable display of political filmmaking. "Communicate with the Soviets? We can't communicate with the Pentagon - and it's just across the goddamn river!" The film recounts events during October 1962, when the United States government worked to prevent a nuclear conflict after learning that the Soviet Union had positioned missiles in Cuba. There are numerous ways to describe Thirteen Days, and each would be fitting. Essentially, it’s an intelligent and suspenseful political movie, with excellent writing and performances from everyone involved. It's refreshing to encounter a film that manages to both inform and immerse you in a world of political maneuvering while also sparking genuine reflection as the tension builds. Yes, there is a lot of dialogue, but these exchanges are authentic and captivating. While every actor delivers a strong performance, Bruce Greenwood particularly stands out; he embodies the role of leader, acting as a central point, and delivering a flawless portrayal of JFK inhabiting a part that seems perfectly suited to him. It’s easy to see why superlatives exist for films such as Thirteen Days. They certainly apply here. 9.5/10
