This vampire movie from Australia, made in the late seventies, feels like it belongs alongside my collection of Hammer and Italian horror films. It’s easy to imagine Barbara Steele playing Kate Davis, even though Chantal Contouri does a good job with the part; it's curious that she hasn’t done more work. Released in 1979, *Thirst* presented a different take on vampires than what was common at the time. The film depicts them cultivating humans to ensure their blood is pure and using fake fangs when they drink. These aren’t creatures lurking in darkness, luring victims; instead, they have a more overt approach. When a descendant of Elizabeth Bathory is found, she's subjected to psychological manipulation until she agrees to join the Brotherhood and reinforce the vampire lineage, ultimately having to make her own decision. It isn't exactly slow-paced or full of action, but *Thirst* has enough going on to engage viewers who enjoy this kind of genre film, although those looking for something lighter might want to skip it. I’m planning to buy the Blu-Ray when I order from Amazon next.
