The promotional material really highlights the strongest aspects of this movie. The setup is straightforward: sisters “Asia” (Zazie Beetz) and “Maria” (Myha’la) endure abuse at the hands of their father, but when one sister takes drastic action, she ends up in prison, leading to a long separation between them. After her release, "Asia" finds work as a cleaner in an impressive New York building, unaware of the kind of tasks she'll be expected to perform for “Lily” (Patricia Arquette) and the wealthy people around her. She might find support from “Ray” (Paterson Joseph), who is married to her new adversary but has grown dissatisfied with his situation—though even together, can they possibly overcome their unusual opponents? While I appreciated the final portion of the film, the rest felt disappointingly commonplace and predictable. It carries echoes of a demonic take on "John Wick," and there's very little humor once the violent nature of events is established. The visuals are appealing, but I’m finding these films centered around a single character taking down many enemies to be more and more tiresome; this one felt like it repeated itself too frequently.
