Seriously, it feels like every movie that year had this same weird, detached vibe. "Sunshine" is definitely one of them. It's got a cool premise – a team goes to reignite the dying sun – and some truly gorgeous visuals; I mean, space is pretty, right? But man, nothing really *happens*. The characters are just kind of…there. They talk, they do things, but I never felt any connection to them or what they were trying to accomplish. It’s all very clinical and distant, which I guess is the point, but it also made me profoundly bored. There's a lot of technical stuff about solar flares and gravity wells that went completely over my head, and honestly, I didn’t care enough to look it up afterward. The ending? Don’t even get me started. It just kind of…ends. I wouldn't necessarily call it bad; it's more like an exercise in style with no heart.
