This crime drama and road trip story featuring Sarandon and Davis has its moments of enjoyment but carries a sense of sadness throughout. The film follows two women from Arkansas—Sarandon and Davis—who find themselves on the run across the Southwest, with Keitel and Tobolowsky in pursuit. Brad Pitt appears as a wandering cowboy, while Madsen and McDonald portray the respective romantic partners of the central characters. "Thelma & Louise," released in 1991, is considered a classic crime drama/road movie that incorporates some exciting elements. While it's diverting and visually appealing, I don’t see it as particularly uplifting for women—unless you consider making hasty, ill-advised choices and destroying your life to be empowering. It manages to be funny, dramatic, and beautiful to look at, but the story ends on a somber note. Sarandon was aged 41 when filming took place, with Davis being a decade younger. They both appear well, though their characters initially aren't very likable, particularly Thelma (Davis), although you do come to feel for them as events unfold. The movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes and was filmed in Southern California and Utah, along with Bedrock, Colorado. GRADE: B
