It’s unusual for me to dislike a Terry Gilliam movie, and I'm disappointed to give this one such a low rating. It essentially lacked a narrative; what there was felt disjointed, with a central figure experiencing things that seemed random and strangely presented. While the characters and environments showed promise, the writing didn’t deliver on any significant progression. The visuals maintained Gilliam’s characteristic style, but the script let it down. Christopher Waltz's performance stood out as being quite good, however. The fact that it became primarily about a gamer lessened my enjoyment. Based on the title, I expected something clever or intellectually stimulating. Instead, much of the film involved the main character manipulating controls and pursuing a scientific objective. Melanie Thierry’s contribution was welcome and brought some positive moments, but felt unresolved. The movie didn't do well with audiences, receiving mostly lukewarm reactions. I consider it to be below average, particularly considering the director’s usual high standards. 3/10
