I’m struggling to grasp what this movie about a road trip is trying to achieve. It begins with a far-fetched situation: “Gordy,” played by Eddie Redmayne, finds himself in his convertible alongside "Martine," portrayed by Kristen Stewart – a complete stranger he's already developed an interest in from a distance. He comes across as clumsy, while she seems easygoing but uneasy about being alone with him. Fortunately, when the weather turns bad, they encounter another traveler, “Brett” (William Hurt), who has recently been released from prison, and so the three of them set off on a journey that allows their personalities to be examined – both by themselves and the audience. Redmayne seems to at least be putting in some effort; however, the other two actors appear just as unenthusiastic about guiding these adrift individuals toward any kind of resolution as I was becoming. The plot thickens when we learn more about why “Brett” was incarcerated, and we are introduced to his wife, "May" (Maria Bello), but I still couldn’t figure out why anyone believed this would be an engaging film. It feels like the characters were designed and fabricated to push a story forward; there's not much that seems real or believable about how things unfold. The cinematography is pleasant, showcasing beautiful scenery in Louisiana, but beyond that, it resembles more of an "Elsie & Sid" than a "Thelma & Louise." Perhaps I simply wasn’t feeling it, but this didn’t resonate with me at all, apologies.
