I really anticipated seeing The Wretched, especially given that it arrived on VOD early during pandemic restrictions. Initially, things seemed promising; the opening scene, a standard horror setup, was genuinely unsettling and captivating. The narrative itself presented an interesting premise, somewhat fresh, incorporating elements reminiscent of "Rear Window" that proved effective. Furthermore, the creature effects were remarkably well-done. However, the central character felt lifeless and behaved in ways that were frustratingly self-centered, which ultimately diminished the overall experience, even with his attempts at change later on.
