My thoughts on this film were influenced by something a schoolmate mentioned—that they didn’t buy the ending. That sentiment was my initial reaction as well. It seemed hard to accept that an incredibly advanced alien civilization would alter their plans and initiate a technological collapse based on the ramblings of three older British men while under the influence. However, that issue isn't really significant for me because Edgar Wright is skilled at creating entertaining comedies, and The World’s End had me laughing—things like Gary’s self-assurance early on, the disagreements about what constitutes a robot, Martin Freeman’s appearance, among other moments. Even better than that, though, it demonstrated how a comedy can be truly effective when it has a distinct perspective. It prompted me to consider not just the possibility of global destruction, but also the darker aspects of nostalgia and the ways people avoid confronting unpleasant realities. Simon Pegg's portrayal is noteworthy; he conveys genuine emotional depth beneath the surface of Gary’s comedic persona.
