This is a worthwhile human drama with many positive aspects. I found this movie to be a moving and impactful drama taking place in the years following the Bosnian War. Set against a backdrop of peacekeeping missions in that nation, still struggling with ethnic divisions and the aftermath of civil war, it follows an American police unit uncovering a large-scale operation involving military personnel and UN staff who are trafficking women for sexual exploitation. She brings these activities to light, but finds herself unsure of anyone’s true allegiances, as those responsible remain protected by diplomatic immunity granted from New York. I'm not completely clear on the actual events that inspired the film. However, I am aware that Kathryn Bolkovac did take legal action against her employer for wrongful dismissal after reporting criminal activity, and she was successful. Regardless of the specifics, it’s a well-made movie with an engaging and touching story, skillfully directed by Larysa Kondracki. Rachel Weisz delivers a powerful and compelling performance, which is essential to the film's success. David Strathairn also provides solid work, along with experienced actors Vanessa Redgrave and Monica Bellucci. The film benefits from good cinematography, costumes, set design, and an effective musical score, resulting in high production values and some truly memorable and upsetting scenes.
