The movie is an enjoyable romantic comedy featuring Adam Sandler portraying a somewhat corny wedding singer named Robbie, who’s supposed to marry Linda (Angela Featherstone). After his wedding day doesn't unfold as expected, he forms a connection with Julia (Drew Barrymore), who is herself planning a marriage with the unlikeable Glenn Guglia (Matthew Glave). The film incorporates an energetic soundtrack from the 1980s and follows the progression of their developing relationship. Sandler plays a genuinely good person, immediately gaining the audience’s support; he's the type of guy who would bravely intervene to save a kitten, even if it meant facing danger. His scenes with his singing coach, Ellen Dow (Rosie), are particularly charming and leave you wanting to offer him comfort food. While I felt Alexis Arquette was the standout performer as an aspiring Boy George, there’s also a delightful appearance by Billy Idol later on. The film is full of big hairstyles, wide shoulder pads, and provides a warm look back at a time when the music was often far more striking than the movie itself.
