The Wave proves to be a remarkable Norwegian-language disaster movie. The story follows a geologist who’s preparing to relocate with his family for a higher salary, but before they go, he has concerns about a possible imminent collapse of the mountain overlooking their town. He must persuade his coworkers while there's still an opportunity to evacuate. When his anxieties are realized, the residents have just 10 minutes to get away. What follows is pandemonium as people attempt to flee and the geologist struggles to protect his family. The film’s production budget exceeded $6 million, which seems quite reasonable given Norway’s size; I anticipated a movie of this kind would be considerably more expensive. The presentation feels very authentic. The performers delivered outstanding performances, and there's one particularly intense sequence set within a confined tunnel that left me feeling breathless. As of the time of this writing, the film is accessible on Netflix in the United States. It’s certainly worth seeing even if you need to pay for it or buy it—it can be downloaded from all major US distributors. Don't let the fact that it isn’t in English deter you.
