This movie was awful; I wouldn’t sit through it again, and I can’t suggest anyone else does either. I don’t usually care for Ben Stiller’s performances, and Vince Vaughn isn’t someone I enjoy watching, either. Jonah Hill is alright, but this film comes before he developed his acting skills or learned to manage them; being over-the-top doesn't automatically make something humorous. I was hoping Richard Ayoade would improve things, but instead, he seemed like an observer of a disaster unfolding. It’s amusing to imagine him asking the other actors if these kinds of jokes are what Americans find funny. The movie starts with a promising idea – ordinary people discover alien invaders—a familiar concept, certainly, but one that could have been interesting. However, it feels as though they attempted to borrow elements from "Laser Team" and then made changes to avoid copyright issues. Basically, the film doesn't offer much of worth. It’s not particularly funny, and it functions primarily as a lengthy advertisement for Costco and other recognizable brands. There's so much money invested in something that feels like an enormous waste. It is true that the production values are high; it looks polished, even if I didn’t care for the alien designs, and there's a solid story underneath all of this. But ultimately, the execution falls flat, with uninteresting characters and a plot that doesn't engage. You’d be better off watching "The World's End" instead.
