The man identified by the film's title is “Lafcadia” (Irrfan Khan), who works as an enforcer for a local leader, dispensing harsh punishments to those who disobey him. He also has a young son with an interest in a girl from a neighboring village. When he’s ordered to suppress that same village, he narrowly manages to protect the girl—a rescue made possible by a charm his son gave her. Witnessing her distress and the violence inflicted upon her community prompts him to re-evaluate his life's work. He decides he wants to leave his job, but his superior isn’t receptive to this decision, and retaliates against his son “Katiba” (Puri Chibber) while Lafcadia is in hiding. Now feeling lost, “Lafcadia” begins a journey toward the Himalayas and his home village. During his travels, he must avoid the relentless pursuit of a subordinate named “Biswas” (Aino Annuddin), meets a thoughtful young traveler “Riaz” (Noor Mani), and encounters a blind woman (Damayanti Marfatia) who, after touching his blood-stained face, wonders if he is responsible for her father’s death. The problem for this man is that he doesn't know whether or not he committed the act; it's possible he did. Increasingly troubled and disheartened, what chance does a person have now, stripped of family and companionship as he heads toward the snowy north? If you are seeking an action-packed film, the initial fifteen minutes might satisfy that desire, but afterward, the story transforms into something resembling a visually stunning exploration of guilt with minimal dialogue. The central character is so absorbed in his own thoughts that it can be tedious to watch, and perhaps “pilgrim” or even "ashamed" would have been more fitting titles than "warrior." Nevertheless, the film is beautiful to behold, acting as a visual record of an agrarian Rajastan where feudal and subsistence lifestyles remained largely unchanged for generations. It doesn't entirely fulfill its premise, but Khan gives a moving performance, making it worthwhile viewing.
