This movie, *'The War with Grandpa'*, just doesn’t work for me; something about it feels wrong. The beginning especially drags—the first quarter hour or so is incredibly slow and tedious. It does pick up a little once the central idea starts happening, but even then, it fails to leave any lasting impression. Even those scenes that seem like they could be interesting fall flat. The performances aren't great; I’d call them below average at best. That was disappointing, considering Robert De Niro (as Ed), Uma Thurman (Sally) and Christopher Walken (Jerry) are in it. It doesn’t seem like anyone wasn’t putting in effort, but they just didn’t convey any energy. The younger actors aren't particularly noteworthy either. Even though the film is only 94 minutes long, I was eager for the credits to roll for a while there. Still, knowing my habits, I might end up watching the reportedly planned *'The World War with Grandpa'* sequel in a few years...
