I recently saw this on Netflix, and I wasn't anticipating anything specific beforehand. Sadly, it didn’t turn out to be very enjoyable. My biggest issue was how exaggerated everything felt from beginning to end. There were a constant stream of grand moments without enough background information to make them resonate. Perhaps that approach can sometimes succeed, but in this instance, I don't believe it did. It proved difficult to connect with the central figures, and even harder to care about the twenty supporting actors within the two-hour runtime. Simplifying the storyline and focusing more on the main characters could have improved things; a bit of campiness while avoiding excessive seriousness would also be possible. Ultimately, it failed to deliver what it needed to. It reminded me of Armageddon, but with even less attention paid to developing the people involved. If you're simply looking for impressive visuals and don’t require much beyond that—and I have no problem with that—then this might be worth your time. The science fiction aspects were genuinely intriguing, which I appreciated.
