It's probably best to simply acknowledge upfront that this movie’s science is not particularly convincing. The plot and structure aren’t groundbreaking either, as Hollywood has tackled similar narratives before. Nevertheless, it proves to be a fairly engaging and well-made story centered on a group of Chinese trainees who have to step up their efforts when they discover themselves tasked with protecting the infrastructure designed to safeguard the planet from terrorist threats. Their situation is incredibly dangerous; they face an enemy that’s both skilled and deeply established. When the moon begins to destabilize, it once again becomes their responsibility to prevent its collision with Earth, allowing a series of thousands of engines positioned worldwide to be activated and propel humanity into a new orbit around Alpha Centauri. The performances and writing aren't particularly noteworthy, but the visual effects—particularly in the opening scenes—are impressive, and the film’s tempo is occasionally entertaining as this committed team – along with others from various nations – must come together to defeat an invisible adversary and save humanity before it’s too late. It would honestly benefit from being trimmed down; losing about an hour could result in a more concentrated and powerful storyline that maintains audience interest just as effectively as comparable Western films. To fully appreciate the visual creativity, seeing it on a large screen is recommended, although physics students – whether specializing in astrophysics or related fields – might find themselves uncomfortable with some aspects of it.
