_The Wanderers_ isn't without its flaws—certain scenes felt a bit strange and old-fashioned, most notably that disturbing exchange using offensive language, which caused me considerable discomfort. However, setting those problems aside, there’s a lot to appreciate, especially considering it’s a film driven by its soundtrack, reminiscent of American Graffiti and The Last Picture Show. It successfully evoked a sense of nostalgia, portraying teenage bonds, conflicts, and familiar coming-of-age themes. I felt the director's clear affection for his experiences growing up in the 60s, combined with a refreshing dose of roughness from the 70s and 80s. It’s true that it’s inconsistent at times and occasionally awkward, and it won’t be receiving any major awards for nuance, but the fantastic music was enough to keep my attention. If you share my fondness for movies that transport you to a somewhat idealized version of the past, this would be a worthwhile way to spend an evening. It has shortcomings, certainly, but it's ultimately very enjoyable.
