The Vow comes across as a fairly standard romantic drama, though it does have an unusual element. I had a good sense of what to expect going in, and yet I still found myself drawn into the narrative. I became really engaged with the connection between the main characters, and their developing relationship was lovely to watch unfold. There's a unique touch to this kind of film—the lead character experiences a setback concerning her memory—and I believe it was treated thoughtfully. However, the movie ultimately follows the same basic plot as countless other romantic comedies, which felt like a missed opportunity. Rachel McAdams delivered a strong performance, and Channing Tatum was…Channing Tatum. You get what you’d anticipate from him. Despite its shortcomings, the film did succeed in moving me emotionally, which is certainly something positive.
