I decided to see this movie primarily because of Lily Gladstone, and she certainly lives up to expectations. However, the film itself doesn’t quite hit its mark. It centers on two fundamental ideas: that each individual experiences grief uniquely, rendering any attempts at comfort futile, and that genuine understanding of another person is impossible. Even when someone expresses their thoughts directly, the meaning shifts based on their personal background. I would have preferred it if Lily Gladstone and Marrisa Maltz had focused on just one of these concepts to provide a stronger foundation for the story. Each idea held promise individually, but combined they resulted in something unfocused and rambling.
