Rose Reaser portrays Rose, who is married to Sammy, played by Walton Goggins, as they get ready for an important party at their house. A persistent car horn prompts her to go outside, where she encounters Helen, portrayed by Lois Smith. This older woman firmly believes she resides in their home, and when Rose brings her inside while attempting to find assistance, Helen’s presence unexpectedly stirs up the family and their guests, leading them into a string of uninspired and drug-fueled revelations that ultimately weigh down the narrative. The film is filled with fairly unremarkable performers, a sentiment seemingly underscored by Rufus Sewell's involvement. It feels like any memorable moments are attributable to a bathroom doorknob, Lois Smith’s performance, or Roland Rubio’s energetic portrayal of their son, Wilder. Beyond those few bright spots, the rest of the cast consists of characters who simply don’t inspire much engagement with their personal issues, which appear to be either self-created or driven by selfish motives. The film relies heavily on tired tropes, unfortunately.
