This Steven Soderbergh film, made relatively early in his career, feels like a neo-noir that takes its time unfolding, and functions as a character exploration. The acting is good; Peter Gallagher and Alison Elliott both deliver noteworthy performances. I didn’t love the entire movie, but the final half hour was decent, and it's possible to recognize the seeds of Soderbergh’s later directorial approach—something he would fully develop in Traffic, which happens to be my top pick among his work. **3.0/5**
