It’s enjoyable, something I’d be willing to watch again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. There’s a sense that this project came after the controversy involving Katherine Heigl ("27 Dresses"), and she seemed determined to present a positive image, but accepted the part because it allowed her to portray the type of person she was previously criticized for being. Gerard Butler ("Bounty Hunter") delivers an energetic performance in an attempt to match her, and they both play well off one another. It’s difficult to say who gives the stronger performance; Gerard is obviously acting, although he may be portraying a character behaving unusually, which I notice regardless of how good it is, while Katherine is so believable and effortless that you don't register her acting until she intentionally exaggerates her reactions in response to another character’s actions. It isn't a top-tier film, but it proves to be quite fascinating. If you can set aside those observations, I think you might appreciate the underlying commentary on gender dynamics and a thoughtfully crafted narrative. While nothing about this is exceptional, it remains a reliably good romantic comedy.
