Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood have good chemistry together in this entertaining and unusual crime story. They play Las Vegas police officers working in an evidence room, whose professional lives seem stalled. That changes when one of them notices a strange bail receipt that prompts them to look into what might be concealed in seemingly ordinary places. With some unexpected details in hand, they resolve to discover the contents of a former secret vault. Their methodical approach is significantly enhanced by the sharp and amusing dialogue between the two leads, and the story maintains an element of surprise until its final moments, which does make it worthwhile seeing. It has one significant drawback: it moves too slowly at the beginning, occasionally prompting impatience. Also, the resolution feels rushed—a disappointment because Cage, especially, but Wood as well, didn’t get to wrap things up nearly as amusingly as they should have. The ninety minutes pass without difficulty, but I suspect it won't stick with you for long afterward.
