A man in his thirties (Jim Carrey) resides within a seemingly perfect coastal community and desires to depart, but encounters inexplicable obstacles preventing him from doing so. What's behind this situation? “The Truman Show,” released in 1998, is a drama, fantasy, and satire directed by Peter Weir and featuring Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich, and Natascha McElhone. It’s reasonably enjoyable, offering some interesting observations about the human mind. The film adopts a less extraordinary tone than “Dark City,” which was released more than three months earlier. Those who appreciated the later, stronger "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" will likely find something to enjoy here as well. I do feel it’s somewhat overhyped, especially the conclusion, which while acceptable, didn't fully satisfy me. The film has a running time of 1 hour and 43 minutes and was filmed in Seaside, Florida, situated on the Panhandle between Pensacola and Panama City. Interior scenes were completed at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. GRADE: B-/C+
