It’s not your average treasure hunt movie! Who doesn't enjoy a good treasure hunt film? They are usually exciting, full of surprises. The poster and the title initially suggested something familiar—perhaps another 'Indiana Jones' or 'National Treasure'. I was let down by that expectation at first, but then realized this film offered something unique with a very realistic approach. While I’ve seen many films on similar themes, this one stood out as being quite rare. It isn’t a lighthearted movie like the others, but it does offer a clear understanding of what a real treasure hunt might entail. The story wasn't overly complicated and felt like a simple, small film. A man from an ordinary middle-class family living in an apartment is approached by his financially struggling neighbor. All he wanted was some money to search for the treasure his dying grandfather had told him about. So these two men joined forces for this unusual quest. They needed to make all sorts of preparations before they could begin, like renting a metal detector and planning it as a weekend event so it wouldn't interfere with their routines. Eventually, the long-awaited adventure began, and how everything unfolded is shown through some tense moments and humor. This film moves at a very slow pace. The treasure hunt sequences are especially drawn out, slower than one might expect. It’s probably geared toward a more mature audience and is considered a black comedy—and yes, that's exactly the tone it has. Not every black comedy works for everyone, though. I went in expecting something different, but ended up enjoying myself. The initial premise seemed unbelievable; most people wouldn't readily agree to participate in something like that, not because it’s illegal, but simply because it doesn't make sense or provide enough reason to get involved. You really need to be thoroughly convinced. > ❝We've all got problems. You've got problems. I've got problems. A man makes his own problems. They don't descend from heaven.❞ The brief story about Robin Hood at the beginning felt connected to how the film concluded. The character Costi seemed like an ideal person for a typical world, and his belief in being good definitely conveys a positive message. I didn’t think he would go along with such a quest—that was the first unexpected turn. Then, seeing his desperation to succeed, more than the man who brought him on board, it became almost comical, which is characteristic of the black comedy style. The verbal sparring between two out of three characters during the hunt really set the tone for the rest of the story. It’s definitely not a predictable plotline; that's what kept me engaged, even with the occasional slowdown in the narration. I appreciated the dialogue, particularly the explanations of technical terms like those related to metal detectors and the brief history about the Romanian communist era, including regulations regarding found treasures. It wasn't just a matter of grabbing some tools and starting an adventure; it effectively highlighted that treasure hunting isn’t like what you see in films. Ultimately, the treasure comes in many forms, and how this film handled that aspect was really clever. That’s evidence of a well-written screenplay. While something similar could be made in Hollywood, it probably wouldn't make money—that’s the difference. This is why smaller film industries around the world can produce such gems. It’s what motivates me to explore international cinema. In some places, the plot wasn’t entirely logical; however, that’s how it needed to be in order for it to become what it is. As I said, the ending was really cool—I mean the conclusion after the quest itself. It left me with a smile on my face. The performances were good. The writer and director deserve special recognition. I haven't seen many Romanian films, but so far, none have disappointed me, and this one was very satisfying. My advice to those who want to watch it is to expect a drama rather than an action-adventure-thriller. Patience is also required. You might end up liking it more after you’ve watched it than while you're watching it. Overall, it's a worthwhile film. _7.5/10_
