Frankenheimer’s war suspense-thriller is truly impressive; I had known about this film for a while but hadn't made time to watch it, and now I regret that delay because it’s superb throughout. The sound design is remarkable, as is Maurice Jarre’s musical score. Every performance stands out, with Paul Scofield being particularly noteworthy. It’s somewhat astonishing that the movie didn’t garner more recognition from the Academy Awards beyond the writing nomination. **4.5/5**
