The Tomorrow War turned out to be an unexpected highlight this year, featuring imaginative creature designs, engaging action, and what could very well be the most visually striking shot of 2021. Chris McKay’s skill as a director is evident, with skillfully handled action scenes accompanied by a suspenseful musical score and outstanding visual effects—the Whitespikes are genuinely frightening to look at. While Zach Dean doesn't steer clear of familiar genre conventions, resulting in a predictable plot, the film still manages to offer well-developed characters. Chris Pratt performs admirably in the lead role, but Yvonne Strahovski’s performance stands out significantly, arguably being her finest work yet on screen. The movie does feel longer than it needs to be; the final portion feels largely superfluous and less captivating, which diminishes the impact of the ending when compared to the powerful resolution earlier on. I have a feeling it will develop a dedicated fan base. It’s definitely something you'll want to watch again. I suggest checking it out. Rating: B
