The movie "The Threesome" suffers because it tries to do too much. What starts as a thoughtful examination of societal norms and how people connect ultimately gets bogged down by storytelling techniques and an uneven focus on the characters. Even though Zoey Deutch seems to be working hard to create a layered personality for her role, the fact that Ruby Cruz’s and Jonah Hauer-King's characters don't receive similar development creates an imbalance. The film contains some sincere explorations of affection, family ties, and what we owe to others, but it ultimately devolves into a sometimes irritatingly dramatic story, producing a sense that a promising chance was missed.
