It’s a remarkably restrained and elegant film about theft, showcasing Steve McQueen’s acting talent. He plays a wealthy man who appears to have it all, but secretly he’s carefully arranging and carrying out a bank robbery yielding more than $2 million. When the insurance company assigns their top investigator—the stylish and sharp Faye Dunaway—she swiftly understands the situation, setting off an intelligent back-and-forth with romantic undertones. The music by Michel Legrand is excellent; the conversations are concise, sometimes amusing, and Norman Jewison’s direction is delicate and appealing, culminating in a final scene that sticks with you. It's really something special.
