This courtroom drama works exceptionally well, largely thanks to a remarkably layered portrayal by Kōji Yakusho, who is consistently impressive. However, it represents a significant departure for Koreeda, and honestly, the altered approach isn't entirely to my liking. He truly excels when exploring family dynamics, and I’m hoping he goes back to that kind of storytelling in his future projects.
