It's hard to believe Tobe Hooper directed this sequel to *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*. While the first film established a very unsettling atmosphere, part two leans more toward horror-comedy than it does towards genuinely bleak horror. This is probably due to the twelve years of filmmaking history that passed between the movies and the fact that horror films in the 80s generally had a different feel compared to how they were made in 1974, but somehow this humorous tone doesn't quite fit with Leatherface and his disturbed family. You kind of expect a dilapidated house somewhere in the desert, not some strange amusement park. Nevertheless, *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2* isn’t a bad film on its own. It hits the mark regarding the tone it’s aiming for, there are a few scenes that splatter fans will appreciate, the character of Stretch is a true scream queen, and they even managed to get a star like Dennis Hopper involved. Those who can view *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2* as a standalone film rather than a sequel will likely be well-entertained.
