The film opens with Arnold Schwarzenegger appearing in 1984 Los Angeles wearing nothing and having a specific objective. Initially, he needs to find some clothes before setting out to eliminate everyone named "Sarah Connor" listed in the phone directory. Shortly after, Kyle (Michael Biehn) shows up intending to stop this scheme, kicking off a chase. Simultaneously, Sarah (Linda Hamilton) is completely unaware of being targeted until news reports begin detailing the violent deaths of people sharing her name. Naturally alarmed, she seeks shelter in a nightclub while police attempt to reach her. However, Schwarzenegger isn’t just a large, muscular man; he's also an incredibly strong killing machine—and seemingly impossible to kill. Kyle and Sarah now face a difficult struggle simply to survive as they try to devise a strategy to defeat their adversary before it destroys them—and anyone else in its path. Aside from the synthesizer soundtrack, which hasn’t aged well, this movie remains a good and enjoyable science fiction horror film. The script wasn't James Cameron's main focus here, and that shows, but the film’s tempo and the limited yet impactful special effects create an exciting climax with a real sense of danger lasting until the very end. Hamilton isn’t a particularly strong performer, but as events escalate, she connects well with Biehn, making it worthwhile to see on a large screen even after nearly forty years.
