It feels almost unnecessary to review a film with such a long history, but because it’s one of my personal favorites, I decided to do so anyway. I believe The Terminator functions as a lovely and sorrowful romance unfolding against the settings of both the future and the past. A soldier is dispatched from the future to the 1980s on a mission to protect John Connor's mother, the leader of the resistance, from a technologically advanced killing machine. That’s already familiar territory for most viewers. What really resonated with me was Kyle Reese’s willingness to undertake this perilous assignment; he volunteered because he had developed feelings for Sarah Connor. Despite being separated by years and Judgement Day, her son shared stories about his mother and provided him with a photograph, seemingly intending to inspire Reese's affection and motivate his journey through time. His purpose was to safeguard Sarah Connor, thereby securing the survival of humanity in the future, while also confronting a formidable T-800 using primitive weapons and assisting a hesitant young woman. The action sequences—explosions and gunfire—make for an extremely enjoyable experience. The plot, however outlandish it may seem, is exceptional and permeated popular culture during the 1980s and 1990s, with countless people referencing lines from this science fiction film. It remains a consistently good movie and continues to be impressive even after all these years.
