The movie centers on a former police officer who’s now responsible for raising his two daughters following the loss of his wife; he accepts a position as a building supervisor at a large hotel coinciding with unexplained vanishings among the guests. It proved difficult to connect with the characters, because they seemed to lack any real spark or charm, which made it challenging to feel invested in their fates or care about what happened to them. Combined with an absence of humor, this contributed to a somber and rather dull atmosphere throughout. The one bright spot was a clever plot development that did manage to inject some energy into the story...though looking back, I suspect I could have anticipated it. It provided some amusement overall, but didn’t distinguish itself in any significant way.
