This French comedy really hit the spot for me, just like other films from France that I enjoy. Coralie Fargeat took what appeared to be a straightforward narrative about Hollywood’s focus on youth and attractiveness, and managed to turn it into something of a cult classic—a horror film, a late-night showing, a low-budget movie in the best sense of the term. It's truly inspired! At first glance, the plot seems to deal with what happens when you no longer fit Hollywood’s standards, but there are also some fascinating side stories woven into the script: using someone else as a stand-in who bears the burden of aging, similar to Oscar Wilde’s *Dorian Gray*, and exploring themes of superficial self-loathing and self-acceptance, plus that characteristic desperation for recognition that many performers have—something they either need to confront or risk failing at. Demi Moore is fantastic in this film. Dennis Quaid and Margaret Qualley give performances just as strong, and Coralie Fargeat’s direction encourages these exaggerated portrayals.
