I’ve noticed this film receives an incredible amount of attention, and I suspect that has a lot to do with Liv Tyler being in the starring role. I recall seeing it when it was initially released, and while I found it agreeable at the time, it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. It wasn’t particularly striking, but it was an enjoyable viewing experience. Liv Tyler performs adequately, although she spends much of the film alone within the house, which leads to the movie feeling somewhat repetitive after a period of time. When the perpetrators finally appear, I feel like many viewers were anticipating their explanation, and they seemed surprised by the reason: 'Kristen' was present! Can you believe it? Who would have imagined? Isn’t that essentially the same justification for why 'Jason Voorhees' targets people near 'Camp Crystal Lake'? Simply because they are there? However, I understand the intention – the killers lack any other purpose than to attack random individuals. They aren't after money or valuables; their sole focus is taking lives. But that’s a motivation common among many serial killers, so it doesn't feel particularly unique. The movie did become quite enjoyable when it escalated into more graphic violence toward the conclusion. It’s pleasing to see a film like this feature performers as recognizable as Liv Tyler, and Scott Speedman was perfectly acceptable in his role too. "The Strangers" is an adequate home invasion movie, but definitely doesn't warrant all the excessive promotion it has received.
