It's difficult to appreciate this installment without recalling events from the previous film (2025), and afterward, one wonders why it couldn’t have simply been incorporated into that earlier story with an extra twenty minutes of running time. There isn't much substance here justifying a separate movie, as Renny Harlin and Madeleine Petsch seem to be attempting to extract every last drop from this exhausted series. The weary “Maya” (Petsch) remains in the forest while the masked killers focus on anyone entering their town of "Venus." This time, her involvement with their violent actions increases, and we’re given a glimpse into the experiences that led them to their axe-wielding behavior—which, like everything else, feels stretched thin and not fully developed. The film concludes, thankfully, but leaves open the possibility of further sequels—though it seems unlikely there's anything more left to extract from this narrative. It would be suitable for television viewing on Halloween, but isn’t worth a trip to the movie theater.
