It’s remarkable how much it hurts while simultaneously possessing such grace. The film collected numerous Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for George Roy Hill, Best Screenplay by David S. Ward, Best Editing from William Reynolds, Best Song Score by Marvin Hamlisch, and Best Art Direction/Set Decoration from Bumstead & Payne, as well as Best Costume Design by Edith Head. It was also nominated for Best Actor (Redford), Best Cinematography, and Best Sound. There aren’t many movies I can watch again and again, but The Sting is certainly one of them; in fact, I watched it less than two days ago and found myself talking to the screen as if I were part of the story. I've read that the film achieved its success primarily due to the popularity of the actors involved. That seems unfair, especially considering Robert Shaw’s performance. He occasionally might seem a bit much, but his depiction of Lonnegan is truly entertaining—just watch his face during the poker game on the train as Newman delivers some hilarious moments. The movie is visually appealing, and the narrative elements come together to create an ending that's both powerful and delicate, like a butterfly in film. It deserves a perfect score: 10/10.
