_**Action-Packed Comic Book Crime Story Featuring Stallone, Stone and Woods**_ A former CIA explosives expert (Sylvester Stallone) finds himself working for a woman in Miami (Sharon Stone) who wants him to eliminate the criminals responsible for her parents' deaths. Rod Steiger and Eric Roberts portray wealthy gangsters, while James Woods appears as the specialist’s competitor, employed by the mob. "The Specialist," released in 1994, is a serviceable action movie starring Stallone, though it has a very comic book feel; Woods seems to be overacting, and Roberts does too, although not quite as much. Stallone was 47 years old during filming and appeared to be in excellent physical condition. There’s a nude shower scene involving him and Stone—handled discreetly—and she looked wonderful at 35. However, it isn't better than "King Solomon’s Mines" (1985), where her shorts seemed to get progressively shorter throughout the plot. Her character in that movie wasn't as deeply troubled as she is here; instead, she was full of energy and life. It’s noticeable that music from 1980s Bond films was used in this one; it seems the filmmakers were aiming for a similar atmosphere. While it doesn't involve traveling to different locations like the 007 movies do, it combines elements of those adventures with "The Punisher" (1989). The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 50 minutes and was filmed in the Miami area of Florida, though the opening sequence was shot at Great Falls Dam in Rock Island, Tennessee. GRADE: B-/C+
