The Snapper has an energetic and spirited feel to it. Characters aren't hesitant about sharing their thoughts, frequently and with volume. I’ve seen many films from the British Isles, but the intensity of the performances and how quickly people speak made it difficult for me to catch all the dialogue. Still, even though I missed some specifics, I could generally understand what was being discussed because of the emotions on display. I felt that a few of the side stories deserved more attention, although they were consistently revolving around the impending arrival of the baby, which makes sense. The author also wrote the screenplay, so he likely included what he considered essential to the story. I hope viewers who are expecting or have young children won’t take away the impression that heavy drinking while pregnant is advisable; it's important to remember this is just a film. Ultimately, The Snapper was enjoyable, and that’s really what matters.
