The film immediately evokes a feeling similar to Black Sunday (1960). There’s quite a bit working well here: a statue with disturbing imagery, a community suspicious of people investigating their secrets, and some unsettling visuals. It certainly delivers on the scares, but I would have appreciated more explanation regarding the origins of the statue and the town's unusual circumstances. Still, it was an enjoyable experience overall. It would have been better if Carmen had some familiarity with Polish before accepting the assignment and traveling there. Also, understanding what the villagers were saying in their own language would have enhanced things. Did anyone else notice that the statue seemed reminiscent of Pazuzu?
