The initial portion of this film is surprisingly poor—terrible in a way that’s almost entertaining—but it gradually gets better as the story progresses, eventually becoming fairly acceptable by its conclusion. It seems clear that the filmmakers spent too much money hiring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Cam Gigandet, leaving little left for other aspects of the production. The quality feels cheap, the written dialogue is weak, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers appears to be simply going through the motions. However, Cam Gigandet commits fully to his role—and he also has some nude scenes! If you’re looking for something to watch, I don't think you’ll regret giving The Shadow Effect a try.
