Betsy Drake portrays Ellen, who finds herself spending time with her family near the shore and meeting their neighbor, Jeff, played by Robert Young. His home seems strikingly modern, almost like something from an old “Thunderbirds” episode. Initially, there’s a connection between them, but she soon discovers that he tends to be quite clumsy. The incidents range from minor mishaps to more significant issues – situations where you definitely wouldn't want him in charge of transportation! The film explores the cause behind this pattern through a narrative structure combining present-day events and flashbacks; however, this approach lessens the impact of the central danger from early on, and Young doesn’t quite have the weight needed to sustain the story. While director Michael Curtiz does create some truly suspenseful scenes, much of the film feels like an unfortunate series of coincidences orchestrated by a particularly unkind fate for Jeff. It's not awful, but it’s doubtful that this will stick with you for very long.
