I didn't approach *The Scorpion King* with high expectations, but I did find myself entertained by it. For me, the movie zipped along at a comfortable pace, roughly ninety minutes that felt fairly quick. The action sequences were handled well throughout. The casting choices were generally good as well. While Dwayne Johnson’s performance isn't his finest—he has developed considerably since then—he certainly meets the physical demands of the role. I appreciated seeing Michael Clarke Duncan, Kelly Hu, Grant Heslov, and Bernard Hill in their parts. Steven Brand was the only performer who didn’t quite convince me; I thought his Memnon felt just barely adequate, and he seemed like the weakest part of the ensemble. The special effects were restrained, which I considered a positive thing when compared to other installments. It's always surprising to discover these kinds of series and realize how many entries exist without my having any awareness of them—until now. Nevertheless, I am definitely curious about exploring the rest of the franchise.
